New Resource Helps Unaccompanied Youth Access Education Support

Navigating the educational system can be daunting for youth and their parents, especially if the youth has special education needs. Unaccompanied youth with special education needs are supported in their navigation process through a number of legislative provisions that youth advocates will want to understand. “Surrogate Parents and Unaccompanied Homeless Youth under the Individuals With Disabilities Education Act”, a new resource from The National Association for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth (NAEHCY), provides the legal landscape for who can consent for special education evaluations and services for unaccompanied homeless youth, with implementation tips and resources.
